Katharine von Schubert went to the West Bank in October 2002 as a volunteer international observer, based in Bethlehem, for Quaker Peace and Social Witness, and she continued working in Jerusalem for another organisation into 2004. The book is made up of 28 reports that she emailed back to supporters. Written usually on the day that curfews, deaths and other incidents happened, sometimes written while enduring long delays at check points, her reports are often emotional, sometimes bleak, but always interesting. Katharine’s Christian faith, though not explicit in these letters, comes through her writings. |
