Pentecost 2006Salaam and Whit-Sunday greetings from the Mother-City of our faith. The celebration of Whit-Sunday is a reminder that the old Babel is defeated and the era of breaking all barriers has dawned upon us. May God’s Holy Spirit fill our hearts and minds, and empower us to comfort the broken-hearted, give sight to the blind, and set those in captivity free. Exciting events include: The Consecration of Suheil Dawani as Bishop Coadjutor of the Diocese of Jerusalem on 6th January. The Palestinian democratic elections on January 25 that brought Hamas to power. As Christians living in the Land of the Holy One, we are not worried. We were here long before January 25, and we will continue to be. In my opinion it was a vote against, not a vote for: against the double standard of the American administration, against the Israeli policies in the occupied territories, and against some of the corruption in the previous Palestinian leadership. The vote taken by the Synod of the Church of England to divest from companies that produce equipment wrongly used, that is, rather than paving ways for people on both sides to meet, used for destroying homes and bringing an atmosphere of hopelessness and death. In February, around 4,000 participants gathered, including 691 delegates from the 348 member churches, for the World Council of Churches 9th Assembly in Brazil. The theme was ‘God, in your grace, transform the world’. Your prayers are greatly desired for our ministry and for the furtherance of Christ’s Gospel in the world. May he empower us to carry on with his mission: to bring peace and justice and reconcile those in conflict.
