Pentecost 2007MARGARET KIDD Teacher at Ahliyyah Margaret Kidd joined the Church Mission Society in 1951. She taught for 32 years at the Ahliyyah School for Girls, in Amman, Jordan, a school with an age range from three to 18 years. She died on 30th January 2006. During her time in Amman, Margaret was a member of the Arab Episcopal Church of the Redeemer, and was also on the committee of the English-speaking community of the same church. She also taught the Arabic-speaking Sunday School. At school, Margaret taught Religious Studies and English to pre-O-level standard, and her duties included the arranging of school prayers. One former pupil had this to say when she retired: "Miss Kidd's importance and special status do not stem only from her long association with the school. They come also from her very special personality. She is always full of energy, burning to get things done successfully and properly, and working hard to see that they are. Her genuine enthusiasm and interest make her a dynamic presence wherever she is. Miss Kidd is going to be surely missed, for she is respected by everyone who has met her and loved by many." Margaret retired to Canterbury in 1985 and was made an MBE in the same year for educational service to the community in Jordan. She was also awarded a medal by King Hussein for Services to Education in Jordan. We praise God for all Margaret gave to CMS, and to Ahliyyah School and the Church. Thanks to CMS and ‘Yes’ magazine for permission to reproduce this tribute.
