The Diocese of Jerusalem is holding its annual Synod (Majma) in Amman Jordan, and for the first time since hostilities broke out in Gaza, the Director of the Al Ahli Hospital in Gaza city was able to give a Report.
This has been the only hospital operating continuously throughout the war. The week before the war started a new cancer care centre was opened that was subsequently destroyed by a missile. Dr Suheila Tarazi did not dwell on the horrors of the war but rather she began by profusely thanking all those present for their continuous prayers and support for Ahli's staff and patients over the past three years. She then praised her staff for their perseverance through eight missile and drone attacks, constant medication shortages, and general hardship of life.
She went on to alert the Synod to present circumstances and need. The hospital's main generator recently broke down because of a lack of spare parts and machine oil. Because of this, only a smaller temporary generator and damaged solar panels are available to power one of four surgical rooms. The city's only CT Scanner has also been put out of service because of this.
While the hospital is working hard to fix the generator, she implored the Synod to work and pray for the restoration of this lifeline to the sick and wounded in Gaza.
At the end of her remarks, the Synod gave Suhaila—and by extension, all of the Ahli staff—a standing ovation.
