John Clark joined the Board of JEMT in 1999 and succeeded Richard Owens as Chairman in 2008. He was a member of the JMECA Council from 1980 to 1999.
After gaining a degree in History from Oxford University he was involved in the publication and distribution of Christian literature in Iran in the 1970s. The events of the 1979 Islamic Revolution caused him and his family to return to Britain where he became Regional Secretary for the Middle East and Pakistan for the Church Mission Society until 1987. This involved travelling widely throughout North Africa, the Middle East and Pakistan supporting the four dioceses of the Episcopal Church and Church of Pakistan in their life and witness.
After working as CMS Communications Director until 1992 he joined the national staff of the Church of England as Secretary of the Church's Partnership for World Mission (1992-2000), Chief Secretary of its Board of Mission (2000-2) and until retirement in 2007 as Director for Mission and Public Affairs for the Church's Archbishops' Council. He served on successive Anglican Communion Commissions for Mission (1989-2005) and a number of British and Irish ecumenical bodies.
He is on the Board of four charities involved in Christian Communication and supporting Christians in the Middle East.
