Whilst visiting the parish in Bahrain on Friday 11 November, Archbishop Michael licensed the Reverend Dr Franklin Isaac as Associate Priest of St Christopher’s Cathedral and Mission to Seafarers chaplain to local ports.
Fr Franklin, previously serving in India, began his ministry in Bahrain some months earlier. He and Interim Priest the Reverend Deborah Moorgas from South Africa have been supported by key lay people in sustaining Anglican church life and worship in Manama and Awali since the retirement of the previous Dean, the Very Reverend Bill Schwartz.
The following Sunday the archbishop presided at a multi-faith Remembrance Service in the grounds of the British embassy, hosted by British Ambassador His Excellency Roddy Drummond and attended by His Excellency the Foreign Minister of Bahrain, Dr Abdullatif bin Rashid Al-Zayan. Representatives of the Muslim, Jewish, Hindu and Sikh faiths joined Archbishop Michael and others in prayer.
In the evening, Archbishop Michael officiated and preached at St Christopher’s Cathedral’s own Act of Remembrance.
