The Patriarchs and Heads of Churches in Jerusalem have sent out the below Easter message from the Holy City to Christians around the world.
In their greetings they refer to Apostle Peter's words that through the resurrection we are offered "a new birth into a living hope" that sustained the disciples through many trials and tribulations. Peter continued:
“In this you rejoice, even if now for a little while you have had to suffer various trials, so that the genuineness of your faith ... may be found to result in praise and glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed”
1 Peter 1:6-7
In their message of hope, the Patriarchs and Heads of Churches write, that these words both encourage and empower us during these current tumultuous times, referring to the escalating violence in the Holy Land over recent months. They then call on officials to cooperate and collaborate, and the international community alongside local residents of goodwill to advocate on their behalf, to help secure safety, access and religious freedom of the resident Christian community and pilgrims visiting the Holy Land.
