Service for Christian Unity

The leaders of the churches in Jerusalem at front of St George's behind the alter during the serviceBishop Hosam Naoum, the Anglican Archbishop in Jerusalem, officiated over a special prayer service for Christian Unity at St. George the Martyr’s Cathedral in Jerusalem on the evening of Sunday, January 22nd, 2023. Present in the service were bishops, clergy, monks, and nuns from different denominations, as well as a group of the clergy of the Diocese and the Cathedral. The service was also attended by laity from the different churches in Jerusalem.

The service was comprised of different readings, prayers, hymns, and the lighting of candles. After the Gospel was read by His Grace Archbishop Adolfo Tito Yllana, the Apostolic Delegate in Jerusalem, Bishop Naoum gave a sermon on the parable of the Good Samaritan (Luke 10: 25- 37,) and derived from this year’s theme for the week of prayer for Christian unity:

Do good; seek justice

(Isaiah 1: 17)
