Shirley took over the role of Secretary to the trustees of JMECA, and Administrator for JEMT in June 2010 following the retirement of Mrs Mary Knight.
She describes herself as an 'ecumenical Christian' having worshipped in a wide range of churches and is currently an active member of her local church which is a partnership of Anglican, Baptist, Methodist and United Reformed Churches. To further her knowledge and deepen her faith she studied a 4 year EfM (Education for ministry) course.
Her professional background is equally mixed. Having trained originally as a teacher, she later found her niche conducting consumer market research for major food manufacturers, which led her to work around the world including a period working on the Middle East and North African markets.
Following the birth of her daughter, Shirley decided that a change of career was needed that would allow her a better work:life balance and particularly wanted to work in the charity sector, ideally with a Christian focus. The role with JMECA was the answer to her prayers. Her skills and experience are now being put to good use within JMECA, managing the day to day running of the charity.
