A brand-new primary school has been opened at St. George’s Church in Baghdad, Iraq.
The ceremony took place on Michaelmas Day, September 29th and was led by Rt Rev Michael Lewis, Bishop of Cyprus and the Gulf. The school has grown out of the church’s kindergarten and is the first of its kind in the country. It will serve the Moslem population and will include years 1, 2 and 3. It is hoped that the school, known as the Al Fadi or Redeemer School, will eventually serve about 300 children. The Chaplain of St. George’s, Rev Faiz Jerjees, emphasised the importance of the school in inter-faith relations in the country.
